For Parents: How to be Healthy for Halloween

Halloween is the one time of the year that kids look forward to pigging out on everything made of sugar. Every other day of the year we are concerned about their sugar intake, dyes and high fructose corn syrup. Those things are so unhealthy for you, but your children will be okay if they enjoy some of their favorites this Halloween.

As their parents, it is a time of nostalgia as we remember our own childhoods.  Halloween can be a lot of fun for both parents and kids. It is important that you take this time to bond with your children over costume designing or shopping, decorating the house, and planning trunk-or-treat themes (these things are fun right…sigh). Let’s face it, we love to see our children enjoying all of the excitement of the holiday. But between classroom parties, costume parties, and trick-or-treating, there is a lot of work to be done.

And after all of that hard work you deserve to sneak your child’s Halloween candy when they go to bed. I mean first of all, you have to check all of the candy to make sure it is safe for them to eat. Secondly, you have to have some of your old favorites that they probably won’t even like or appreciate! Lastly, you have to eat some of that new age candy that they love just for good measure. Taking some of their candy is just like Uncle Sam withholding taxes from your paycheck. It is only fair and they owe you!

So, don’t think about your diet, delete your healthy Halloween snacks Pinterest board and enjoy Halloween!
